    Serial to Ethernet

    Serial to Ethernet device server allows companies to connect legacy serial devices to an Ethernet LAN/WAN. TNS offers Moxa range of Nport device servers. Steps to choose a suitable serial device server:

     

    1. Check if there is an easy-to-use web console or utility to simplify configuration and management.

    2. Protect your networks in a connected world. Make sure the serial device server you choose has sufficient security functions to keep your data protected. Using strong login passwords or creating an IP whitelist easy ways to limit access to your serial device servers to authorised users. 

    3. For IIoT projects that connects many field devices and transmits critical field data,  Choose an industrial grade serial device server. It should endure harsh environments, such as extreme temperatures or high electromagnetic interference. This will minimises chances of data loss arising from a serial device server shutdown.

    Yes. Moxa Nport device servers feature a COM Grouping function. You can keep existing settings and flexibly add backup devices to an existing network.

    Yes. Use the Maximum Connection function on supported Moxa Nport device servers to automatically send serial data to up to 8 host computers. You can designate which computer is the primary host. Each host receives the same data at the same time (i.e., automatic back up).

    COM ports added using the NPort Administration Suite are not visible in the Windows Device Manager. If you need to check these COM ports, you can view the COM ports in the NPort Administrator. To see the COM ports in Windows Device Manager, use the NPort Windows Driver Manager to map the COM ports.

    All of Moxa NPort series device servers and serial terminal servers come with multiple serial-to-Ethernet operation modes that preserve the original serial communication settings for a wide array of applications.

    If an Ethernet connection is detected in Moxa NPort, the WLAN interface will not be enabled by default. If you want to enable the WLAN interface, you must configure the wireless related parameters, restart the NPort, and then pull out the Ethernet cable.
